Catch a Glimpse of 3D Models in Lifelike Size before 3D-Printing them

It is now possible to download a brand new program on your phone or tablet that will give you the opportunity to view a 3D model in lifelike size before 3D-printing it. This will allow avoiding 3D-printing an object without being entirely sure of how it’s going to come out. That new program is called Augment and it is possible to use it with the majority of 3D modeling formats. The masterminds behind the project are a programming prodigy, a master’s graduate with a background in cognitive sciences as well as a prominent authority in open data.

While Augment is free of charge, you can pay for added features that will allow you to catch a lifelike glimpse of the product that you are on the verge of purchasing. Moreover, STL, Collada, OBJ, 3DS and Blend files are supported. It is also possible to use any iOS or Android device to that end. In other words, it is an awesome addition to the range of 3D modeling products already available on the market.

Augment CEO Jean-François Chianetta said that he had initiated the journey a little more than one year ago. Indeed, he had started photo printing in poster size but didn’t know how it would look on his wall. As a result, he decided to try to come up with an application that would allow him to view the actual size of the posters he was about to print. A few tweaks here and there and you can now see your 3D models in their actual size before !
