When scanning parts, good visibility of the laser lines or the white light pattern on the part is key for successful data acquisition. This aspect of the scan is greatly influenced by the color of the part and material type.
- High reflectivity can lead to a mirror effect, which makes it difficult to read the pattern on the part
- Black color absorbs the light and therefore makes it difficult to read because of a lack of contrast
Using Magnaflux SKD-2S Developer Powder to spray the part is a very effective way to avoid these two effects.1
Tips and Tricks
- Think of a strategy to manipulate the part covered with powder before spraying it
- Don’t spray on the same spot for too long or it will create drips
- Use the sweep technique; the spray can isn't a camera. Don't point and shoot. To get an even coat of powder, sweep the can past the object as you spray. For example, if you're moving left to right, begin spraying to the left of the object, onto the object, and then to the right of the object
- Don’t apply too much powder; let it dry between each application
- For inspection purposes, make sure you don’t add too much thickness to the part
- Wear an appropriate mask and safety glasses
