Lévis, May 21, 2009 - Creaform, developer and manufacturer of the Handyscan 3DTM line-up of portable, handheld and self-positioning laser scanners, celebrated last night the sale of its 1000th unit. The announcement was made during the Handyscan 3D Rendez-vous 2009 user meeting held at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac.
Creaform launched its first scanner, the REVscanTM, in June of 2005. Four years later, the prestigious Natural History Museum of London, home of some 70 million items and renowned center of research, just purchased a VIUscanTM color laser scanner, making it the 1000th unit sold by the company.
Over these four years, the company grew from 45 to 200 employees and added four scanners to the Handyscan 3D line-up: the EXAscanTM, the ERGOscanTM, the VIUscan and the MAXscanTM scanner for large parts. Plus, Creaform became the #1 seller of 3D scanners in the world, acquired a French company and launched the HandyPROBETM portable arm-free CMM.
"From the day we released this revolutionary and never-seen-before 3D scanning technology, it took Creaform only four years flat to sell 1000 scanners, says Charles Mony, president of Creaform. This tells how performing and reliable it is, and how versatile and profitable the 3D community found it to be. I mean, we managed to scan a live tree - we can only imagine where this will lead us!"
Creaform also announces a 35% year over year revenue increase for Q1. The fact that the company could achieve such positive results despite the economical crisis and while its major competitors suffered major decreases during their first quarter is an excellent indicator of how the technology developed by Creaform and its services really meet the 3D industry requirements for quality, accuracy, reliability and high ROI.
